PGA TOUR Superstore World Ameteur Handicap Championship
Tournament Dates August 27-31, 2007
This is more than just a golf tournament. It has been called the Mother of All Golf Tournaments and The World's Best Amateur Golf Tournament. All are well-deserved nicknames for the PGA TOUR Superstore World Amateur Handicap Championship.
Celebrating its 234th year in 2007, the event will attract almost 4,000 players from all 50 states and some 30 foreign nations for lots of fun, friendship, and most importantly, great golf. You will have the chance to not only compete for over $500,000 in prizes, but the honor of being crowned the World Champion of Amateur Golf.
The four-day competition takes place on over 75 of the Myrtle Beach area's championship courses, with each flight winner (and ties) competing in the Championship Round at the prestigious Dunes Club.
Each evening, contestants and their guests will gather at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center- better known as the World's Largest 19th Hole to check the leader boards and enjoy the Taste of Myrtle Beach, which features some of the best restaurants in the area showcasing their specialties. Sponsor exhibits, a golf expo (featuring a 40,000 sq. foot SUPERSTORE that is a MUST SEE for any type of golfer), special clinics, demonstrations, guest appearances, golf games and dancing are all part of the week's festivities.

Anyone can be a Winner:
In the past, it's been clubs, balls, rain gear and more. This year, it's almost like cash. Thanks to the generous support of the PGA TOUR Superstore, gift certificates will be given to the top 10 in each flight.
But the prizes don't stop at the competition. Each year the World Am hosts our random drawings during the closing ceremonies, so many participants walk home with great prizes just for being at the World Am -- from trips to equipment and more.
Centex Homes is back again this year to give away another Golf Villa. Craig Bush of Pennsylvania took the keys home last year to a brand new two-bedroom Villa at Berskshire Forest after some stiff putting competition. This year it could be you, the next winner of the Centex Homes Golf Villa Quest putting contest. It's open to all participants who win their flight's closest-to-the-pin competition (void where prohibited). After that, it all rests on nerves of steel and the ability to sink a 10-footer for the biggest prize of your lifetime!
Over the past 23 years, players with handicaps rangin from 3 to 35 have been crowned World Champion. It's fun for all, no matter how skillful you are, your age, height, weight, or gender. Because of the golf handicap system, anyone can compete in this world-class event. Just play your game. That is the spirit of hte PGA TOUR Superstore World Amateur Handicap Championship.
What Is This Event All About
What better way to add spice to your regular Saturday morning group than to carry the competition to the World Am? Talk about bragging rights.
One such group is the Golf Club of New Jersey. This is a competitive organization that conducts weekly tournaments for some 200-plus amateurs across New Jersey. Dave Formichella founded the Golf Club of New Jersey, and was a regular at the World Am prior to starting the club. He was so impressed with the World Am experience that he decided to use it as a selling point for his new club. The top five players at the year's end all recieve free entries into the following year's World Am. This is the group's eight year. 'Why not? The World Am atmosphere is what our club is all about,' said Formichella. 'It's a competition, seeing different competitors each day, hanging around and talking about it afterwards. It's what we run up against here each week, but on a much bigger scale than ours.'
Formichella's club is a microcosm of the World Amateur, in that it attracts players of all ages and skill levels, from tournament-savvy scratch players to 36's that only play a few times a year.
The number of World Am competitors from the Golf Club of New Jersey has grown consitently, and this year he expects 55 participants and a total of 150 people, including family members, to flock to Myrtle Beach in late August. 'On top of everything else, this makes for a nice family vacation,' said Formichella, a single digit handicapper who won Flight 1 in 1999. 'I'll bring my wife (Madie) and kids ever year. Myrtle Beach is great for that.'
Battleground
Over 75 different golf courses are used for competition during the tournament. Each flight will play a set of four golf courses. You will meet and compete with a different foursome each day. The tournament staff takes great pride in ensuring each set of courses is equal in both quality and location.
You will be placed in a flight based on your handicap index, age, and gender. Last year the tournament had over 45 flights in six age and gender divisions. So, regardless of your playing ability you will be competing against players at your level, whether you are a scratch player or are happy to break 100.
Attention Mr. Bagger, Please Report To Room 202
When over 4,000 golfers come together to compete for the most coveted title in amateur golf, you're going to get a few bad apples. Here is a story of one such individual.
Joe, a 22 handicapper, stands on the first tee and sends one down the fairway 280 yards. Througout the first round he keeps making impressive shots. Joe's playing partners are obviously aware that he's no 22 handicap, and so is the World am's Handicap Committee.
That night at the World's Largest 19th Hole, the murmurs begin. Who is this guy? If he's a 22 then I've got to be at least a 30! Who let this guy in?
In the tournament office, computer programs with heavy duty mathematical equations are getting to the bottom of Mr. Joe Baggers impressive game. He's been flagged.
The next day Joe's 'luck' continues and he plays another impressive round for his handicap. Many of his fellow competitors are wondering if the Handicap Committee is paying attention to Mr. Joe Bagger's transgressions.
On the third day of competition, Joe's Handicap has been severely adjusted and he's playing at a handicap that is closer to his playing ability. This is just the first step in the adjustment process. One low round is statistically possible and two is very improbable. But three? No Way! During the day, the Committee is reviewing Joe's first two rounds with a fine tooth comb and determining his fate. Joe's not helping his case on the course with a third impressive round.
After a call to Joe's head pro, his hometown playing partners, and even his wife, it turns out Joe hasn't posted a score in quite a while. And his scoring average over his last 10 posted rounds went up six strokes. It's not looking too good for Joe right now.
Suddenly, during the third night of the 19th Hole, the loud speaker crackles and announces, 'MR. JOE BAGGER, PLEASE REPORT TO ROOM 202.' At the same time Joe's name appears in lights on the massive JumboTron with the same ominous message.
This is the end of the line for Joe. Room 202 is a place you don't want to go. This is judgment day where Joe is presented with the evidence and handed his sentence. He's been ejected from the competition. He'll be playing the next day, but just for his own enjoyment.
The Handicapping system and adjustment process at the World Am is the most advanced in the world, and a model that is used as the benchmark of excellence. While many of the specifics are confidential, most that have attempted to subvert the system can attest to its effectiveness.

Tournament staff will use that verified index to flight each player within their respective divisions: men, mid-senior men, senior men, super senior men, women and senior women. RULES & REGULATIONS
Handicap Requirements
The tournament will be conducted using the USGA Slope Handicap System. Entrants' handicap indexes will be used to establish a daily handicap based on the USGA slope rating of the course to be played. In early May, all players will receive a handicap verification mailing. At that time, players will be required to submit a copy of their current handicap card to tournament headquarters for verification. The card must clearly indicate a player's most current 18-hole handicap index and include a list of scores used in the calculation of the handicap.
If you do not have an established USGA Handicap Index, please send 5-6 or your most recent scorecards when you recieve your Handicap Verification Mailing in May. Do not send scorecards in with your entry.
Handicap Monitoring
Your incoming handicap will be used for the first round of play. After the first round, your handicap will be calculated from your incoming handicap index and your first round score. Handicaps will not be increased because of this adjustment.
During the rest of the event, every score will be screened through our adjustment system. This system will examine each score relative to the difficulty of the course played. If, when calculated, your score breaks the established threshold, your handicap will be automatically adjusted for the remainder of the tournament.
If a player is adjusted and continues to shoot exceptional scores, their handicap and its accuracy will be thoroughly researched. The following methods may be used to discover false handicaps of players in question:
• Reviewing past tournament results/rankings
• Utilizing the Internet to research:
• Tournament scores/results not posted on handicap
• Other handicaps established but not reported
• Updated handicaps not reported prior to tournament
• Implementing USGA Probability Table for exceptional score(s)
• Calling home golf courses/interviewing person(s) that attested to handicap in question
Any participant found, at any time, to be using a fraudulent handicap will be expelled from the tournament and all fees will be forfeited. The Tournament Committee reserves the right to change a player's handicap index or disqualify from participation, if deemed necessary. All decisions of the Tournament Committee are final.
Refunds
Full refunds will be provided for cancellations received in the tournament office by 5:00 p.m. on May 8, 2006. A $90 refund will be provided for cancellations after May 8, but before May 20. Unfortunately, no refunds can be provided after May 20, 2006. All refunds must be received in writing at the tournament office. Requests are accepted via fax, mail or email only. The Tournament is not responsible for lost or misdirected refund requests. Please allow 4-5 weeks for the processing of the refund request.
Cancellation Policy
No refunds or exchanges will be made if the tournament is canceled or shortened due to weather or nature.
Rules of Play
The USGA Rules of Golf will govern play. Local rules at each course will apply. The Tournament Committee will resolve all disputes regarding every aspect of tournament play.

The Palmetto High School Golf championships
High School teams from around the country are invited to participate in the 10th annual Palmetto High School Golf Championship. In 2006, over 120 high schools from 20 states competed in the event.
The Palmetto High School Golf Championship provides a terrific student experience for all high school golfers. Participants will compete in a three-day, 54-hole golf championship, in America's favorite beach destination, Myrtle Beach , South Carolina . This is a perfect opportunity for all of the spring golf season teams to tune-up prior to conference, sectional and state tournaments. Unlike most national junior golf events, this is an inexpensive way for high school golfers to compete in a "college" style, three-round golf championship. Whether your team is continually competing for your state championship or just developing experience, this team event is fun and competitive for all!
In addition to the student's event, coaches have the option to compete in two-person team tournaments to be held Thursday and Friday of the Championship. Tee times will be allotted for the coaches to play and still keep a keen eye on the student competition. This will be a fun event and an opportunity to meet your peers from around the country.
EVENT HOSTS
South Carolina High School League ~ Ronnie Matthews, Executive Director; North Myrtle Beach High School ~ David Small, Head Golf Coach; Top area golf courses from the "golf capital of the world, " Myrtle Beach, SC.

Teams will consist of five (5) players, using the low four (4) scores to determine the team total each day. During the day 1 qualifier the team's score will be adjusted based upon their assigned golf course slope and rating. Teams will be divided into flights based upon their rank against the adjusted scores of the entire field (not just those at their qualifying golf course). They will then compete for awards within their flight using their total 36-hole gross team score on Friday and Saturday of the tournament. Play will be governed by USGA rules and any local rules that will be announced prior to start of play.
